Bruno Duarte

Bruno Duarte (Leiria, 1991) is a choreographer, performer, and teacher. Currently a PhD candidate in Contemporary Art at the College of Arts of the University of Coimbra, he holds a Master’s degree in Dance Teaching and a degree in Dance from the Escola Superior de Dança (IPL).As a performer, he has collaborated with Grupo Experimental de Dança, Quorum Ballet, Companhia de Dança Contemporânea de Évora, and Companhia Instável. Since 2012, he has been collaborating with Companhia de Dança de Almada (Ca.DA), where he is a resident choreographer. His repertoire with the company includes the creation of works such as Quimera (2025), Inverno (2024), Carbono (2023), and Fobos (2017). His choreographic signature extends to other institutions, notably the piece someone else ago (2013) for Centro Cultural de Belém (BoxNova), Ibrahim (2024) for Teatro Municipal de Ourém, and various creations for Quorum Project, such as Overflow (2025) and iCon (2023). He has also been a guest choreographer at the Escola de Dança do Conservatório Nacional and Escola Superior de Dança. As a freelancer, he co-created and performed the piece L’Veltro (2017).He works regularly in video dance, having choreographed works such as Noir (2021) and Sete dias de inverno (2020), in addition to producing and performing in the award-winning P48 and .5.Bruno Duarte maintains an intense pedagogical activity both nationally and internationally, having taught workshops in China, Brazil, Croatia, Italy, and Portugal, at institutions such as the Beijing Dance Theatre (2015). He was a guest lecturer at the Escola Superior de Dança (2016 and 2019) and teaches regularly at Ca.DA Escola and Quorum Academy. Recently, he assumed the direction of the Movement and Voice module at Oficinas Teatro Lisboa and was part of the jury for the SoloDuo International Festival (2024). His career also includes participation in the European projects CLASH! (2019–21) and Up2DANCE (2020–21), and he was distinguished with the Almada Artes – Young Talent Award in 2019.
